Zion National Park
12:00 PM to 10:00 PM

Zion allows you to follow the paths where ancient native people and pioneers once walked the land. With massive red sandstone cliffs that soar into a brilliant blue sky, you can expect unforgettable views from every direction you look. Our backpacking trip will take place in the northwest section of Zion National Park where we will enter the backcountry via the La Verkin Creek Trail and make our way into the Kolob Canyons. Our destination will be Kolob Arch, which is arguably one of the longest spanning freestanding arches in the world measuring at 287.4 feet (87.6 meters). Along the trail to Kolob Arch lies some of the most beautiful scenery in Zion. Geology becomes art as the La Verkin Creek, with its soothing sounds of life-giving water, sculpts some of the most colorful canyon walls in Southwestern Utah.  We are looking to about 15 miles of distance for the weekend!

Itinerary
Day 1:  Friday we will be meeting up at the SRWC at 12pm to pack away our gear and prepare for the weekend.  We will drive 6-7 hours to Zion National Park stopping for lunch/snacks and gas whenever necessary.  After setting up camp in Zion we will have a delicious dinner and get some necessary rest before our backpacking trip begins in the morning.

Day 2: Saturday we will wake up early for a hearty breakfast and make a one hour drive over to Lee Pass in the northwest portion of the park.  From there we will head up the La Verkin Creek trail toward Kolob Canyons.  After roughly 6 miles we will quickly set up camp and then continue a few more miles to get a better look at Kolob Arch.  After a long day of hiking we will enjoy our dinner under the stars and get some well-deserved rest.

Day 3: Sunday, after hiking down into the canyon all day Saturday, we will have to hike back out towards Lee Pass.  After getting out of the backcountry we will make our way home right away.  We will be stopping for dinner on the way home before arriving at CSUSB around 10pm.
