Bio

Tamara Cedré was born in Brooklyn, New York and was raised in Central Florida. She studied at the New World School of the Arts in Miami, FL where she received BFAs in Photography and Graphic Design. In 2009, she was awarded a fellowship endowed by the Joan Mitchell Foundation to attend a juried residency with Rineke Dijkstra at the Atlantic Center for the Arts. Tamara completed her MFA at the Maryland Institute College of Art where her studio research tested photography as a personal, political tool of documentation. Her photographs, video and filmic installations have been exhibited across the country and featured in publications on the web. Her recent work mines historical and personal archives that articulate diasporic identity shaped by the colonial status of her family’s homeland of Puerto Rico. She currently teaches photography in Southern California and spends her summers on the island.
